About Hisway Painting
Hisway Painting is a family-oriented company, founded by Bud Zegel and guided by strong, Christian principles.

Almost 30 years ago, we moved to Franklin to be part of Belmont Church in Nashville. After a few weeks here, a local Nashville House painter asked me to pitch in and help him on one of his projects – and I ended up working with him for about 18 months.
I didn’t mean to stay that long, nor did I intend to become a painter. I had a family of six, though, and they were my motivation to stay employed. From there, I picked up painting jobs to make ends meet; before I knew it, I needed to hire my first employee. I still wasn’t too keen on the idea of being a painter, but I kept it up because it paid the bills.
One day in 1993, everything changed. I’d been commiserating with my only employee about how rough life was all afternoon, sweating, working and complaining. On my way home that day I cried out to the Lord, “When will my ship come in?” I felt God in my heart telling me, “This is your ship.”
Talk about an instant transformation. I walked in the door of our incomplete house and told my wife, Eileen, “If God wants me to be a painter, then I am going to give it everything in my power to go for excellence.”
I still had the same old car, the same rough job and the same employee, but one thing had changed: my heart.
With God’s help, I learned the ins and outs of contracting. I worked hard with Him by my side and found that I needed to hire more and more help. By the mid-1990s, Hisway Painting had grown to the point where we needed a pickup truck, ladders, and an airless sprayer – and God has been with us during the entire journey.

His Way or No Way.
Psalm 25:9 says, “He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them His way.”
I started this company with the intention of doing business with integrity – and God let me know early on that it was His way or no way. Late one afternoon I was up on a roof painting a dormer. I had my paintbrush in one hand and I was holding on for dear life. I found a crack that looked like it needed to be caulked; but with a painter’s mentality, I figured I could cover it up with paint and call it a day. There was no way I wanted to climb down 25 feet of ladder to grab a caulking gun. I wanted to be done and head home. Besides, nobody would ever know.
So that’s what I did.
On my way home, I couldn’t stop this nagging feeling. God was nudging me to do the right thing. “Why did you name the company Hisway if you weren’t going to do things My way?”
First thing in the morning, I knew there was no other choice. I grabbed a caulking gun, went up there and fixed that crack. It wasn’t even a substantial crack, but I can still picture it to this day.
That crack symbolizes our commitment to doing things the right way. We do everything by the Book… His way.
Faith: It’s Brought Us This Far.
Every day, we thank God for giving us the opportunity to connect with people all over the Nashville area, from Franklin and Oak Hill to Brentwood and Forest Hills.
My wife and I, as well as our entire staff, firmly believe that anything is possible with God. He has been our anchor through the good times and through the bad times, and without Him, we wouldn’t be where we are today.
